Jaren and Kiora on Sept 30, 2008

Jaren is such a great big brother to Kiora. He is very gentle and just gets so excited whenever she smiles at him. He wanted me to take a picture of them together today so I took one with my cell phone. Jaren is 7 years old and Kiora just turned 3 months! I absolutely love watching the kids together, all of them. Kiora is so lucky to have four older siblings. Yes, the kids fight, I think all siblings do, but honestly, they play together so well. They get along much more often than they don't, and for that I am grateful. I know five kids sounds like a lot but I really do love love love having five kids.

Kiora Lillie Bliss is 3 months old today!

I call her "sunshine" (If I'm not calling her Kiora)
Tim combines her first and middle name: Killie (prounounced Kee Lee)
I think my father-in-law, Bob, will call her Lillie (because he can never remember Kiora (Kee or uh)
Remember Kiora's name is a Mauri greeting over in New Zealand...also remember Tim served a mission in Australia... Kia ora means "good health"... fyi ...Kylie is Aboriginal for boomerang.

Trip to Logan, UT to see Alayna & Melanie (Added more photos!)

Alayna, Loreen, Melanie

OK... so we didn't just see Alayna and Melanie, we also saw Dan and Kylan, of course, and also Bruce, Karston, and Joshua! It was a fun weekend. We all chatted for a short bit on Friday night but then had to get kids to bed. Melanie stayed with Alayna and Dan and we stayed at the Comfort Inn (Not as nice as some, but with two queens and a queen sofa bed we all fit just fine). This was the last weekend we could be with Alayna and Dan before they moved to Moses Lake Washington (which they do on THURSDAY). Oh, and we found out they sold their house!!!! Wow, that was fast.

Logan and Kylie and Kylan

Saturday we all went up Logan Canyon and had lunch (love Grist Mill sandwiches) and took a walk along the river trail. The kids had fun climbing trees and hills and looking at catterpillars on the trail.

Here is a picture of Kylie, her cousin Kylan, and Jaren in a tree where we ate our picnic lunch. Well, we didn't eat our lunch in the tree (though I'm sure they would have loved it), but it was by the picnic table where we ate our lunch up Logan Canyon!
Jaren and Logan and Kylan also had fun posing for this picture. I told Dan to stay in the picture but he had to step away. He was right there waiting to catch anyone, just in case. Man the kids sure loved this tree. It really was a great tree climbing tree.

Well...you really can't see Kylie very well in this picture. I took this with my phone. She is actually behind some leaves. She climbed pretty high.

Logan is in the yellow and blue shirt. Dan is looking up at her and Karston is looking at me (there on the right)

Bruce even found a small snake for all of us to look at. I didn't realize how much Dan doesn't like snakes! :) I thought it was adorable.

The water was so clear by Second Dam. Wow, I have never seen so many fish and never have been able to see them so clearly. Unfortunately the stroller caught on some fishing line and it took Tim and Alayna a while to cut it loose.

I love Logan Canyon! This time of year, with the changing seasons is so beautiful. Utah State University where we both went to school, the Logan Temple, where we were married, and so many memories all make Logan a special place for Tim and I. My mom's parents are even buried there so there are a lot of ties to Logan. (Yeah, I know, we named a kid after the place, which Tim would have never let me do if we still lived there.. but we moved away so the name was fair game!) With Alayna and Dan there we loved visiting. I regret that now we won't be going there near as much anymore now with them gone.

Here is a photo of my sister, Melanie, her husband, Bruce and their two kids, Karston and Joshua. Bruce hates when I take pictures of him so I figured a candid shot would be much better. Melanie is oooing and aaahing over Kiora there at the picnic table. She is such a great aunt. Alayna is too. I know they love my kids as much as I love theirs.

Kiora was all full of smiles this weekend. I can't believe she will be three months old tomorrow (the 29th of Sept) OK.. this wasn't much of a smile, more of a smirk, but it is really had to catch a wiggly baby with a crappy cell phone camera. I had forgotten to take our good Canon camera but this is better than nothing!

This was the first time that my sister, Melanie had seen Kiora. (She will be 3 months old tomorrow) Mel and Bruce live in Idaho Fall, ID which is about 6 hours away so we don't get to see them very much. Kiora loved to smile at everyone and loves her family.

After we got back from the canyon and put the little ones down for a nap, Alayna, Melanie and myself and Kiora (she's kinda attached to me right now with nursing and all) went out... We decided with Alayna moving we'd better have another sisters day out and get pedicures!! Woohoo.

We went to this really nice spa that gave you chocolate and crackers... and even more chocolate when you tell them how much you like it. It was so nice to get out, just us.. well Kiora doesn't really count. She slept most of the time and smiled the rest so they approved of her coming along.

I took a quick picture of just my toes with my phone camera, which is a lot faster for me to post. Cute aren't they! This OPI color is called "Charmed by a snake" which I thought was pretty appropriate because of the snake we had seen earlier in the day. Plus I thought it was a pretty bronzy color.

Alayna, Loreen and Melanie's cute toes. Note the extra ones... Kylan didn't want to be left out of the picture and stuck his foot out at the last minute!

Alayna and Mel and I went for pedicures in early June too and every time we go our pedicurists comment on how much they admire our sisterly relationship... our friendship... how much we laugh and the good time that we have. It's true how well we get along, but I must admit that it wasn't always that way. I'm glad we have outgrown everything and that we can be such good friends. Sisters are forever! I tell Kylie and Julaine (and later Kiora) how important their relationship is and I hope that they pick up on the good example that we are setting for them.

While we were out getting pedicures and going out to lunch at Hamiltons (ooooo great food!!!), the guys (Tim, Dan, and Bruce) took the kids out to dinner and then to the park. They all get along great. Thanks guys for taking the kids so we didn't have to!

We sure are going to miss Alayna and Dan. It seems like that's when we see Melanie and Bruce too. It's a much shorter trip for them to just meet us in Logan rather than drive all the way to Delta. We'll have to meet in the middle in Ogden or something and take the kids to the Dinosaur Park or the Children's Treehouse. Bruce's parents live there in Ogden so that might work. I know Kerry and Susan and Mylan and Amy and my parents are excited to get Alayna and Dan so close to them. With four families in Washington Tim and I have an even greater reason to try to get to Washington more often. Of course now, if we go more often everyone is gonna think that we are just going to see Alayna and Dan... just not true guys... we want to see everyone and I know we have been terrible about getting up that way. This move is just making us realize how important it is to make the effort to see family.

I know people get annoyed when I take pictures, but I also know that Alayna appreciated the photos I brought up for her of times that we have spent together. She was grateful for the copies and enjoyed looking at the pictures. Soooo... I take pictures anyway and know you'll thank me later!

I love my family!

(Hey, check out my voice recorder in the left column... It's pretty cool.. I left a quick message related to this blog on it. You'll have to check it out.)

New Hardwood Flooring!

Tim luckily finished laying the hardwood floor before Kiora's baby blessing. Just thought I would post a picture of it. Guess I should have cleared off the table there before I took the picture, but I suppose this is a more realistic view of our living room from the front door anyway. ha ha :)

Before and after pictures of our home

I realized that I posted a picture of our house on Sept 11th with our flag flying and thought I should include a before and after shot to make it make sense. We've done a lot of work on our house and to appreciate it better you've got to see what we were working with.

Here is a photo of our home prior to Spring of 2008 (Jaren and Logan are out front.)

Below is a photo of our home now, Fall 2008:

Note the new cedar fence on the right that Tim built. Our bay window was literally falling off and so we had to fix it. Well fixing the bay window then led to the porch, new siding, new windows, new paint, new back porch, new landscaping, sprinklers, new hardwood floor in living room and dining room, hallway and kitchen, and eventually we will put cobblestone rock along the bottom part of the house. Whew... crazy spring and summer, that's for sure. Tim did the flooring, and painting and helped with landscaping and is planning on doing the rock work too. But it really has been fun updating our home. We really are enjoying it.

Love the front porch!!!

Our new front porch at a closer look.

I love my fountain. Kinda splashes, doesn't it?
There are lights in it too which I love in the evenings.

The long boxes are the flooring boxes. My poor cluttered front porch!
They are gone now though. We have a glide rocker on the left and the other one, which is my favorite is a hanging swing.

My legs lounging on my front porch swing.
(Well the rest of me is there too, not just my legs.)

Loreen's Music Player

Hmmmm I tried to post this on my other blogs instead of this one but it didn't work. Guess I'll just leave it here. You can listen to all of my recorded songs here. You can also visit my website here: Loreen's Music Site! www.loreenbliss.com

Kiora laughing!

Kiora first really laughed with Kylie and I on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 2 1/2 months old. The next day, Sunday, that night after her blessing, Tim was getting some laughs out of her as well... even more. Then today, when I was walking home from Blue Notes I stopped to say Hi! to our friend Hazel Vivieros and show off the baby. Boy did she get the laughs out of Kiora!!!! Hazel couldn't believe she was laughing like that at only 2 1/2 months old. Well I had to record some of it so I could post it here. Short and extremely cute!

Beautiful Blessing, Beautiful Baby

I took this picture just before I changed Kiora into her blessing dress.
Beautiful little 2 1/2 month Kiora Lillie Bliss 9/14/2008

What a beautiful day it has been. We blessed Kiora Lillie Bliss, who is 2 1/2 months old, today in our home at 3:00 this afternoon. Bishop Remp, Bro. Anderson, Tim's parents, Bob and Judi, Alayna and Dan and Kylan, Rob and Misty and their family, Justin and Darla and their family, Nate and Misty and their family all were there. Thanks you all for being with us and sharing this special day with us. We missed all of you who weren't able to be here. My folks have always been to all of our kids blessings and so we missed them terribly but completely understand why they weren't able to attend this time. We wished we could have coordinated this when they were here after the birth, but we know they were here in spirit.

Bishop Remp conducted and we began by singing "I am a Child of God." Tim's dad said the opening prayer and then Tim Blessed our sweet little Kiora Lillie Bliss. It was a wonderful blessing by her father. After that Kylie and Julaine sang a duet, "Pray in Faith" and then I sang "I Feel My Savior's Love" with everyone singing the chorus with me. Thanks Darla for playing the piano for us. Kylie said the closing prayer and the blessing on the food. It was a short, but very sweet program.

Kiora looked absolutely gorgeous in her long white blessing dress. Wow, all my girls are so pretty! She was all smiles when everyone was getting there, but was tired by the time the blessing actually happened so she was a bit fussy. Once I got her back in my arms again she fell asleep pretty fast. Sweet little baby. We had music playing (classical, yanni, kenny g, church) during our get together and Thomas Kinkade art displayed on our TV through a DVD.

I am feeling so blessed today. When you are surrounded by your children, and your family and extended family, it just creates such a strong sense of eternity. A strong sense of belonging and purpose, of joy and harmony. There is nothing in this world as important as family. Nothing. This was a special day for our sweet Kiora. She is a very special little girl. She is a peaceful girl and I know that she will bring much joy and love to our family. We love you so much Kiora!

Julaine constantly tells me Thank you for having a new little sister for her. It is so sweet how all the kids treat Kiora. (Except for the time Logan almost stepped on her. His cute little hugs and "sorry" are almost worth it. :) ) I can't imagine our family without her. I am grateful for each one of the kids and the special spirit that they bring to us. (Yeah, I know... I won't be mentioning the "special spirit" thing when they get older. They won't like it. lol - that means "laugh out loud" for my parents.)

Well, it was a beautiful day weather wise as well. Kids had a blast playing in the backyard and the adults enjoyed the semi peace and quite inside! The food was great (Thanks to all who contributed) and the company was even greater.

September 14, 2008 was a great blessing day for Kiora Lillie Bliss.
I'll post more pictures soon. This one was taken just before I changed Kiora out of her blessing dress. I'll post some good pictures off our nice camera soon. I just wanted to get these on here first.
OK ... I added more...to find all Blessing Pictures, click on the label for Blessing in the left column and all the Blessing posts will come up. Oh, or even easier just click on the Blessing label below this post!

Kiora's blessing dress

I was about to change Kiora out of her blessing dress when I thought I would take a quick pic from my phone. This would get posted much quicker than all the good ones from our nice camera. Eventually they will be posted too but until then . . . she is beautiful in this beautiful dress isnt she?!

Kylie and Kiora

Kiora Lillie Bliss at 2 months and 14 days old! Such a little cutie and all full of smiles. Pictures don't do her any justice at all! Here is a little video clip and, of course, she smiled more when it wasn't recording! :)

Kiora Lillie Bliss - her blessing date:

Well... with Alayna and Dan planning on Moving to Moses Lake Washington soon we've decided to push up the date of blessing Kiora so they can be here.

We are planning on blessing Kiora Lillie Bliss on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at our home.

All are welcome to attend. We are planning on having light snacks and hoping the weather is nice so the kids can play outside. :)

My sister's big plans

Wow, I just got a phone call from my sister, Alayna. She and her husband, Dan, live in Logan, Utah... for now... Dan just accepted a job offer in Moses Lake Washington! Bummer for us though because they will be so far away. My parents still live in Richland, WA where I grew up, as does my brother, Mylan and his family. My other brother, Kerry and his family live in Moses Lake, which is less than two hours from my folks, so Alayna and Dan will be very close to a lot of family. They feel good about this change, so that is what counts. Tim and I love Logan... that is where we went to school, met and got married, so not having a reason to go there anymore is gonna suck. Sigh... My other sister, Melanie, lives in Idaho Falls, ID, which is six hours away from us. I hate having my family so far away.

Tim's family is mostly very close, with only two of the eight siblings living more than two hours away. The majority are right here in Delta with us... so that is great! His family is so wonderful. However... there is nothing like your own siblings and folk and I miss them.

But... best of luck to Alayna, Dan and Kylan!!!

Reflections on September 11th

I feel I need to write something on this seventh anniversary of September 11, 2001. I remember vividly that tragic day of just a few years ago. It seems like only yesterday, and yet seven years have gone by. My twins were exactly two months old that day and I felt so tired, no, so exhausted, that I felt like there was no end in sight for me. And then I remember turning on the news, it was already afternoon and seeing the replays that would be shown the entire day. It didn't seem real. The twin towers... gone. I hadn't ever been to New York, so those majestic buildings weren't a reality to me in the first place. All pictures, interent images. But watching them fall made them real in just those few seconds. The reality slowly seeping in. And the reality of how easy I had it. Sleepless nights from two crying babies seemed insignificant to the future sleepless nights of those who had lost their babies, no matter the age. How good we had it here in this small town. How safe I felt even though the threat could be anywhere. I felt very blessed. I also felt anguish for those who were lost. Sorrow for families they left behind. Tragic loss for those who risked their lives to save others. And pride for American's everywhere who pulled together in prayer and who, regardless of what others tried to do, still had hope.

We are Americans! I am an American. I am a proud American who, like so many others, won't be discouraged. I was so proud how we rose above, and how we will always remember. I felt pride for our city of Delta and the flags all along Main Street. I felt humble appreciation seeing the firetruck with the tallest flag of all blowing in the breeze. I felt pride when I hung our flag off our porch this morning. We will never forget!
